Children’s Voices at AFA

At AFA Fostering, children and young people are at the heart of everything we do. We believe their voices should always be heard, whether that’s sharing ideas, giving feedback, or helping us shape new activities and policies.

When children are listened to, they feel happier, more confident, and safe. Their ideas don’t just make their own fostering experience better, they help improve care for others too.

The Participation Team

Our dedicated Participation Team makes sure children and young people are included in everything we do. They create safe and fun spaces where children feel comfortable speaking up, whether that’s through group activities, creative projects, or one-to-one conversations. Their role is to ensure that children’s voices genuinely shape our services – from the activities we run to the policies we develop.

What children get involved in:

Activities and Ideas

From slime making to skating, our activity days are created with children’s suggestions in mind. We ask, they share, and we make it happen. It means the experiences we plan are fun, engaging, and right for them.

Making a Difference

It’s not only about fun – children also have a say in the bigger things. When we developed our environmental policy, they told us why protecting the planet matters. We put those ideas into action with a beach trip and litter pick, bringing their voices to life.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE)

We’re proud to support young people who want to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. It’s a brilliant way to try new things, grow in confidence, and achieve something that stands out for future education or work.

The Taylor Times

Our very own newsletter celebrates children’s creativity and achievements. From artwork and stories to pet profiles and recipes, The Taylor Times is full of contributions from the children and young people who are part of AFA.

Welcome Bags

Children who foster are an important part of fostering families. To say thank you, we created Welcome Bags filled with items chosen with their help – a small way to show how much they matter too.
